WHAT DRIVES US

For this documentary by Dave Grohl, we needed to animate a story about 1970s punk bands in a way that felt authentic. To create a visual style rooted in the punk DIY aesthetic, we designed characters to look like they stepped out of a punk zine. For the backgrounds, we collaged--and photocopied--original 1979 newspapers from the bands’ hometowns of Vancouver and Los Angeles.
